![]() My best guess is that he was trying to use their dedicated fan base to sway the impressions of HDTF in his favour. Some of the names you might recognise are IHateEverything, Pyrocynical, and the infamous KeemStar. Instead of hiring professionals, like Berkan mentioned in his interview with RunThinkShootLive, a plethora of Youtube personalities were hired to fill roles such as voice actors, and even technical positions like level designers. Here’s where we find another bizarre fact. Well, according to some sources, Royal Rudius (or rather Berkan) used a substantial chunk of their investor money to buy Steam bots, essentially fake profiles that posed as humans and helped to vote HDTF through the Steam Greenlight process. Regardless of the growing fan discontent and development confusion, the game somehow managed to get through Steam Greenlight - a now defunct process that allowed Steam users to vote on indie games they wanted to appear on the marketplace.Ĭonsidering the negativity and the brave few who still had hope for HDTF, you might wonder how such an unpopular title made it past the Greenlight barrier. To further add insult to injury, apparently Frank was barely online and was also the only person that had the authority to approve anyone’s work. As one contractor explained it: “If you forgot what you had to do for the day and Frank wasn’t online, you were fucked”. There is also regular mention of a lack of proper and professional leadership. Beyond a disorganised and often “dead” Discord group, most of the independent contractors, such as level designers and sound engineers, had almost no contact with each other and were rarely, if ever, provided the opportunity to view each other’s work. Now while this might not be entirely unusual, the way these contractors were utilised certainly was. Beyond the core development team (around five people) that worked from a small office in Los Angeles, Royal Rudius ostensibly recruited around 60 independent contractors that came and went over time. Now with money to back the project, development on a full-fledged Hunt Down The Freeman began. Of all the bad things people say about Berkan, you have to give him one thing the man is dedicated as fuck. Somehow, things were starting to look up for HDTF for once. He also managed to secure substantial investments, allegedly including US$50 000 from YouTuber Bolloxed. Behind the scenes though, Berkan was already assembling a new team and formed Royal Rudius Entertainment, the indie studio behind the currently released Hunt Down The Freeman. It seemed like the final nail in the coffin for HDTF. On the contrary, it escalated the negative backlash to a point where the project was abandoned and the development team disbanded. After this interview, the only remaining form of redemption this project had left was an upcoming playable demo, which Berkan promised would answer the ocean of questions that was coming his way. He seemed to show a lack of experience in both game development and general knowledge of said community. While Berkan was confident in his interview, albeit a tad incoherent (he isn’t a native English speaker), he didn’t inspire much confidence in the Half Life community. Through all my research for this piece, this interview was by far the most enlightening look at the early days of Hunt Down The Freeman and the man known as Berkan. The Indiegogo campaign didn’t fare any better raising a meagre US$12 of its ambitious US$100 000 goal.Īround the same time, as HDTF started garnering more attention, Berkan eventually found himself being interviewed by RunThinkShootLive, a Youtube channel dedicated to reviewing “single player maps and mods for Half Life Games”. No one was too fond of the idea of killing their hero Gordon Freeman either. While some considered it an exciting prospect (pun not intended), many quickly criticised the use of cutscenes, the blatant presence of copyrighted assets, strange bugs, amateurish voice acting, and inconsistencies in Half Life lore. The trailer received strong but mixed reactions. To start generating hype and introduce their brain child to the world, an Indiegogo campaign was launched, followed by an early concept HDTF trailer. It was originally planned as a short film, but focus quickly shifted towards the development of, in Berkan’s own words, “an entirely original, standalone story-based FPS game that takes part in the Half-Life Universe”. In 2016, a team lead by a man named Berkan Denizyaran aka “Frank” (his western name) had the idea of telling a Half Life story via the perspective of a Marine who sought vengeance against Gordon Freeman, the iconic protagonist and hero of the Half Life series.

That’s caused issues in the game’s Ranked playlist, which routinely sees the losing squad drop players. Not only does that mean the rewards track grinds to a halt, but it also means there’s no incentive for people to stay in matches if they’re losing. Another group of humans, though, thought the Earth would never recover, so they went away in great spaceships to look for a new home among the stars. In a bid for survival, some humans took shelter in underground vaults that could support them indefinitely, hoping that the Earth would recover someday. However, by the time the war was over, the world was rendered nearly uninhabitable. It is unknown who participated in the war, though the image in this narration depicts a couple giant-sized creatures -presumably aliens or robots- standing in an area full of burning and destroyed skyscrapers (presumably the Dread Lands). If you are in a relationship, you should be sure to encourage your partner and communicate to them that they are good enough and deserving of your love. So while we are evaluating the mistakes that cheaters are making, it’s also important to consider the types of mistakes that lead people to cheat. ![]() It’s important to recognize that while the cheater is ultimately at fault, there are things that can drive someone to cheat. This could be because they are not getting enough attention from their partner in the relationship or it could be because they are struggling with confidence issues. They might feel as if they need attention from someone outside of the relationship to feel desirable or worthy. A lot of the time, people cheat because of low self-esteem. And while infidelity is far from perfection, you should not totally write off your partner because they have cheated in the past, or they cheated before in your relationship. There is no use in holding your partner to the standard of perfection, because you will always be let down. It’s always important to remember that humans make mistakes, and that includes your partner. Here is a relationship coach’s perspective on the phrase, “Once a cheater, always a cheater” - in addition to a few myth busting scenarios when it comes to cheating and how it’s possible for couple to work through their pasts: If you are dealing with someone who has cheated in the past, or a partner that has cheated over the course of your relationship, there are some things you should consider as you move forward. It is possible for a couple to work through their past (and even their current) relationship to overcome issues of infidelity. Just because someone has cheated before, doesn’t necessarily mean that they are a cheater for life. There are a lot of different factors that can drive someone to cheat in a relationship, whether it’s the circumstances of the relationship itself or other, external factors like stress, a temporary (or permanent) disbelief in monogamy, personal self esteem issues, etc. All this is to say that most people that cheat are not serial cheaters, meaning that they can probably be reformed through some hard work and introspection. Again, while attachment issues may explain why a partner has cheated in the past, this is normally not the case. Rebellion in this case may involve cheating on a romantic partner. ![]() People with attachment issues (which are often developed due to childhood traumas) may seek to establish safe relationships, then ‘rebel’ from these relationships in the same way a teenager would rebel against their parents. ![]() And while a lot of us might consider our exes to be narcissistic, narcissism is actually a diagnosable personality disorder and not common in the grand scheme of things.Īlternatively, serial cheaters have attachment issues that cause them to seek ways to break the rules in their relationships. For people with these issues, cheating doesn’t ever seem like that big of a deal, no matter how much emotional harm they inflict on their partners, so they are unlikely to change their behavior. Serial cheaters are often narcissists or people that are turned on by dishonesty. While there are serial cheaters out there (aka people who have a consistent history of cheating and aren’t making the necessary changes to avoid cheating in the future), not everyone who cheats will cheat again in the future. And while cheating is never an excusable offense, this old adage is not necessarily true. We’ve all heard the phrase “Once a cheater, always a cheater.” We hear it so often many people take it as truth. ![]() Mobile monitoring software that is designed for Video Intercom Device in DSS Platform. I'm sure someone here knows how to accomplish this. What would be really nice is to pair CrashPlan with a script that turns all the computers on for several hours during the middle of the night to update and verify backups, then turns them all off again once it is complete. I'm not giving my parents a choice about it, though, I'm just going to set it up for them and make them use it (well, it runs automatically so they don't really have to do anything). My only difficulty thus far is convincing my friends to start a backup ring with me - for some reason they are very hesitant (they don't want to feel obligated to leave their computers on one night per week to make sure the backups are up to date). So in short, CrashPlan works perfectly as far as I can tell. Perhaps I'll simulate a crash and make sure the restore function works. I had thought I'd archived all the files necessary to contain this but it would appear I've missed something or it doesn't behave how I think. I'm not sure how it generates this id or where it stores it. Unfortunately this was a manual operation and it also meant any backups were removed as part of the process. I had to completely remove it from my crashplan account and re add as a new machine before my clients would see and connect to it again. But as soon as I actually rebooted although crashplan reinstalled ok and came back up its internal id seemed to have changed. It worked in isolation - copying the configs and then uninstalling crashplan before reinstalling and copying the archived configs back and then starting the server made the whole thing seamless. Copying the config files generated across during the intial install as well to, in theory, avoid the step of having to login and setup the account again.īUt this didn't work. I also hacked their install script to remove all interactivity and hardcode the install paths to allow it to install from the go script at boot time. I then connected to the server from my windows desktop by changing the client config and configured the unraid crashplan install to login to my account.īackups to it then worked as you'd expect and files were only opened on the array when backups were in progress - so idle disk spindown and the ability to stop the arrary was not impeded. I've managed to install it and lnk the backup folder onto the array. ![]() Will I need to do something similar for each VHD, or are there simpler solutions?
